I have just started collecting but have been passed down a collection from my uncle so I am hoping to get to know what I have and appreciate it as much as he did.

Hi David To be honest I have no idea what I am gonna do. I have some albums of collected stamps which are organised but I also have thousands of stamps cut from envelopes over a 60 year period that I have to idea about.
It's abit overwhelming but I guess the fun is in the journey.
Hi Dave To SCF. Don't get in a hurry. Take your time. Do a lot of reading here. Enjoy the journey. I've been collecting about 15 years all total and still don't know much but I am learning. I'm almost 70 years old so I know my time is getting short but I am going to enjoy what time I have left collecting and learning about stamps and stamp collecting.
I'm a new collector and yes, it can get a bit overwhelming. I'm finding an album helpful, but I'd say enjoy the stamps you have, look through them, figure out what some of them are, and definitely learn about soaking stamps off paper, since you have all those stamps cut from envelopes.
Dave another thing I would say is if you find some envelopes with the stamps still on them. Put them aside for a couple years before soaking the stamps off the envelopes. These are called covers and you may want to keep them as such.
