how do you know if there is a "grill"?

Much of the time for grills on this stamp type you will see a waffle pattern on the face of the stamp. However, that is not a sure thing because there are some occasions when the stamp has a grill that shows nothing unusual on the face. In that case the only way to be sure is to soak the stamp free of its backing - or leave the matter in doubt. In this particular case you will not lose anything to soak the stamp. If you are not familiar with that there are some on this list that can point you to instructions for doing it.
