Another laughable ebay listing. Would you pay $2000 for a used Scott #627 stamp? It has a PSE Certificate stating GEM 100 and while I'm no expert, I see a couple of short perfs among other things that would rank this specimen well below GEM 100. What do you think?

(Frankly, I'm happy with my 50 cent SCV copy.)

What a joke. I'd suggest anyone who considers paying this amount simply to have the number "100" on their cert buy the following item at less than 1/50th the cost, put it on an envelope and mail it to themselves.

The perf below the w of two is less than perfect, so right there I wouldn't call it a 100. Personally, I don't consider the cancel running at an angle perfect either.

Agreed.

Nowhere near a GEM 100, but I just pulled out my used copy of #627 and I still am perfectly happy with it ... and I didn't pay more than a few cents, if that, for it:

I'd offer the seller $.15 with free shipping
and tell him he can keep the cert...

I have as much faith in PSE as being able to properly grade and/or certify a stamp as I do in an In-House certificate. Meaning NONE.

I'm just as happy with examples on cover - or in this case on card, each paying the 2 cent post card rate of 1925-28.

Model Post Office, Sesquicentennial Expo machine cancel
"Received in Package Box Collection" machine cancel
Canal Zone overprint mailed from Ancon, CZ
SS Leviathan, seapost

I would happily pay $20 for that assortment of cards and cancels, John. Nice collection!

Heck no.

IMO that stamp only makes sense for someone competing in the registry and even then it's grossly overpriced. SMQ on a 98 is $210 and I don't think this would break $400 at Siegel.

Also, the last MNH 100 sold at Siegel for $160 (But 8 of those have been made...)

Please don't be so hard on the seller. They were kind enough to offer a payment plan of 6 payments of $334 (making the total $2004 -- another smoking great deal). How can you pass up?

I'm sure if we negotiated nicely, the seller might be willing to offer the stamp in 6 monthly payments of 33¢? Although I'm guessing that like me, Revcollector still wouldn't bite.

I personally think everyone is being too tough on this seller. He is honest. I've known him for years. It's a legitimate offering of the only used #627 that PSE has graded 100. Whether or not anyone agrees with that grade or with grading in general, is a good topic for another thread, but there ARE folks in this world who have lots of money and want to own the best that money can buy. "Money" being an abstract thing depending on how much one has of it!

I've known at least one collector very well who chased the "very best" graded copies for many years. His name was/is Nick Kirke. Search Siegel's website to find his collection - the quality is eye-popping. Nick tried his best to get the very best. "Money" was relatively no object. Judge for yourself how successful he was. He cut his collection off, I think, at 1900, so in any case, he wouldn't have bought this stamp, but believe me, if he DID collect up to say, 1930, he would have bought this stamp in a heartbeat.

The seller is only trying to find another Nick Kirke! Cut him some slack.......

I think the SS Leviathan Sea Post is the best thing going. -- cover wise not stamp wise!
