Found this on piece cancel many years ago, found it interesting, later found another similar one, but with a full impression of all the words in a friends collection. I drew out the cancel so show what the entire cancel showed, very interesting.

The above image greatly enhanced to show details of this APO Cancel

The above image unenhanced for this APO cancel.

The above image, my hand drawn image for this APO Cancel.

Dave, Greetings:

How 'EXPRESS' do you suppose they had in mind? Hard to imagine that they flew it home for ten cents American.

Good that you saw a more complete example, or I'd be asking if the 'EXP' were the beginning of 'EXPEDITIONARY'.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

In May 1918, the War Department assumed responsibility for overseas post offices. Military personnel replaced Post Office Department employees who had been sent to operate the field stations. The Military Postal Express Service (MPES) was the first all-military mail service in American history. (Courtesy National Postal Museum)

wert - Of course the British Army was running postal services prior to 1918, but this is an American Military cancel. Please remember too, that we Yanks tend to forget that we came in late and yet expect all the credit for ending the Great War.

stampmaster - This is a very nice cancel. I have a modest collection of Great War material, but I am seeing this one for the first time. Thanks for sharing!

A little War humour...Told to me by a WW2 vet (my Dad)

"Put a case of beer in a room and ask the British Army to protect it and they will to the last man."

"Put a case of beer in a room and ask the American Army to protect it and they will till they get bored and leave."

"Put a case of beer in a room and ask the Canadian Army to protect it and they will for 5 minutes and then drink it and leave."

HUMOUR GUYS....
