scott prices some stamps with missing tagging at a higher value than those that have the tagging. Being fairly new to collecting, I have yet to see any mention of tagging or missing tagging when looking at stamps for sale, or anyone buying stamps asking about it. so how does tagging come into play in the buying and selling of stamps.

Classic stamps were not tagged, as tagging did not start until the 1960's. So if your interest is in classics, and that is what you are looking at, then that is why you don't see tagging mentioned, or anyone asking about it.

Blcjr is correct. Perhaps you meant to put this in the US Modern Stamps subforum?

That said, there are a few of us "paper mavens" who are looking for luminance and/or luminescence patterns among the various papers of the Banknotes under UV. Issued papers and experimentals. So if you are leaning toward the 19th century classics, the day may come when you want to add a blacklight to your toolkit if you don't have one already. Best to get one that does both long and short wave.

I have wanted one of those lamps for some time now. Especially after I started collecting Britain.
