Quote:
disi123 - backside looks generally clean except for the appearance of a light crease at the upper right corner (which you mention is not a crease). Have you dipped it to check? Cheers, Dave

Quote:
That sure looks like a crease at upper right when seen from the back. Needs to be dipped to rule out, as Dave mentioned.

Gentlemen, gentlemen... the 500 has been immersed in fluid...
I assure you both, as well as any others whom may think they 'see'
any crease, there positively is none...

Re-posting the obverse...

This specimen is, by far, the nicest cancel I've ever personally seen...

The only smatter of cancel ink is the obvious one on the right hand
ribbon, and a very small one below the S in CENTS, and a near invisible
one on the red border - just between the S and the right hand 2...

The darkness in the perfs are dark fibers... no ink is present in
this area... the fibers are easily seen with a magnifier (and not
discernible within the scan)...

P.S. Sorry, this is the best scan I can provide... I only have 600dpi
capability...

disi123,

I am not teaming up with anyone... just reporting a casual observation. Undisclosed faults are the bane of online stamp buying. An even bigger problem is the inability of many collectors to detect faults from scans or from actual physical observation. The stamp has a corner crease. I am not interested in sparing with you about it. You entered this thread giving advice and now you have to take some... Figure out right now why you can't detect the crease. It will show up with the proper use of fluid or side light. If you or anybody else needs help with this just say so.

Find some 32 bit TWAIN software. It is unlikely that your scanner is limited to 600 DPI. Recent WIA scanner software supplies with Canon and possibly Epson scanners seem to be dumbed down to the point of uselessness. Check on the web for a product compatible with your scanner. I don't use VueScan, but I have heard that it works well. I found that using an ancient 32 bit version of Photoshop on Windows 7 with the Canon ScanGear program with the ability to directly import scans. Unfortunately, the import does not work in the newer 64 bit CS3 version. I have no idea what will happen when it is finally time to upgrade to Windows 10. Probably nothing good. Software developers in remote foreign countries don't seem to have any regard for software usability.

Clark... actually I have some TWAIN software from my old Microtech
scanner... perhaps I'll see if it can be made compatible with my
Brother... I'd sure like to break the 600dpi bonds anyway I can...

Thanks for the input...

Thank you Mr. Sinclair for your eloquent response...

Please rest assured - I have no problem whatsoever taking advice,
(except for when the advice is wrong)...

My participation in this thread has ended... say what you wish
to the other members reading... I won't be clicking in again to
view...

And, have a nice day...

Here's another genuine #500, Type Ia, trimmed into a "coil" and offered as a #449, which is a rotary press (strike one) Type I (strike two) perf 10 (strike 3) coil! Strike 4 is the left-side guide line which would never exist on the rotary coil. This may go cheap so if anyone is looking for a real reference copy of a Type Ia this is your chance.
