After yet *another* screwup by USPS and a month round trip back to
the seller and finally to my mailbox...

Tough call on the color... my monitor shows it more 'pinkish' than
it actually is... enlargement shows it more reddish...

Anyone have a guess?

Those seem to be very sharp impressions. They are very attractive stamps.

I don't have an answer as to what color this strip is, just a comment on the difference the color of the background can make in our perception of a color. I joined your two scans because the strip looked a different shade when on the black background.

Hello, Phil... that's quite remarkable... I hadn't even considered
the background would affect the perception in this manner...

Given the color 'family', I'm wondering what other color could be
used to present them more accurately... perhaps yellow or maybe
a lime or light green?

Randall, I scrolled back and forth a bit, trying to decide why the colors looked so different, until I put the two scans togather just so I wouldn't have to scroll, and then saw the perception difference.

R.W.White tells us in his books on philatelic colors that a neutral background is best when comparing color, gray being the ideal background color.

Will a gray background help us name this strip of 65's? Doubt it!

65's are tough, indeed, with so many shades...
I can try gray, but you may be correct...
perhaps there might not be (any) shade which
will work...

I don't think that a gray background will help us decide what shade this strip of three actually is, but I'm leaning towards the brown red/ pale brown red shades.

A very good point was brought up in the previous thread about this strip's vibrant color. It must have been stored away from any harmful UV rays. The green background that the seller originally scanned the strip on sure changed the perception of color, and now the three scans togather all look like different shades!

Agreed... and the impression is sharp and distinct,
which was the original attraction, along with the color...
