Just saw this item on ebay





Being in the printing business and fascinated with fonts, thought it was interesting.

Question is what would the tax be for? I don't think type was one of the tax categories?

The tax was a this stamp usually paid was a documentary tax on receipts, checks, bills of lading, and many other forms of financial paper. The type itself was not taxed but the documents showing the sale of the type were.
