I do not collect US per say (my interests are history & forgeries), I am finally sorting out a collection I got 40 years ago to auction at local club.
These are the particulars of this stamp
Size 19.5 X 22.2
Overall height 24.5
Perf left 9.8 right 9.7
No WMK
Rotary - no ink on back, slight smudging on front
Appears to be straight parallel cut?
Not a Type III - 1 dash both sides of ribbon (not 492), Type I or II?
Perfs on right - questionable??

The stamp looks like a type I 453. It will have a watermark somewhere. The perforations on the left and right sides are aligned. A high resolution close up of the area below Washington's ear would help confirm what is already evident. The outer hair in the lock behind Washington's ear is much shorter than the hair above it. Only type I has this characteristic. The relatively bright shade suggests an early (watermarked) printing.

My guess is it's a 453 Type I and there is a SL watermark somewhere that's hard to see. Can't be 491, since the toga isn't correct for that and the sideburn should have a vertical line at the left edge. So it's not a Type II. Just my thoughts, could be wrong.
