I've had this rather shop worn pair for many years now. As you can see it's not the best cancel, but the reason I obtained it was because the other stamp was not cancelled at all. Just an interesting stamp pair, because it's shop worn not worth very much, but nice to view. I keep it in my Pacific Mail Steam Ship stock book, but not many stamps in there, wish there were a lot more, and none of them on document/instrument!

The first image is as the stamp in question appears!

The second image is a right and proper enhancement to show the orientation of the cancel, and to enhance the faded letters. The blue cast is from the enhancement process and other stuff which I simply do not understand!

Cheers

I forgot to mention (another senior moment in a long series of moments), this cancel the oval Pacific Mail Steam Ship (PMSS) Company is the only oval PMSS that I've ever seen. I seen a number of the PMSS cancels, but not an oval like this one.

Does other members have specific knowledge about this oval PMSS cancel, can we get a census going?

Cheers

It's type P-1 in the following 1985 article.

cjpalermo1964, yes I know about Mr. Jay L. Miller ARA listing, I've had this listing for some time. But you miss my original point, this is the only oval PMSS cancel I've seen. Mr. Miller's only shows drawing of these cancels. I'm interested in the actual example of a real cancel!

But, thanks anyway!

When I said "does other members. . .", perhaps I should restate this as do other members of similar or other oval PMSS cancels along with any background information. Sorry

Cheers
