The obvious one is to drive the price up. But maybe herd mentality enters into it too. Since all these people are bidding on it then it must be real and it's safe to bid on it. Even though in the back of your mind you know it smells because who would offer what could be a million dollar stamp on ebay and start the bidding at $1 and not put a reserve on it on top of that. |
