Few questions about this stamp if I may?

1) What is the line running across the stamp?
2) Is it from the wiping part or lack of the stamp as its the same color? To big of an area for a crack plate.
3) Where could I get a template to print off to view the re-cuts of lines and blocks, damage transfers. I guess the varieties of recutting? Kind of like the one that you can print off for Franklin that has the complete design.

Thank you forum for your knowledge

Newby, go to the electronic library of the USPCS site. Dr Carroll Chase' book, the U.S. 3 cent 1851-57 stamp is there.

Revcollector and stampcrow thanks very much. I will search when I get home from work this evening. I thought it may of been a cracked plate but thought it was too big of and area. That's why I thought it may of been wiping of the plate.
Thanks again for time and knowledge.

Yup, that's a hideous crack. Here's another 71L18. The crack extends a bit into 72L18.

Hey Classic coins I also notice yours is more of an orange and I guess mine is a dull red?
Would you know where I could print a copy of I guess a template of all the recuts and lines? I've seen it somewhere but just can't remember where maybe it was on here at the forum. It reminds me of the die design of the one cent Franklin?

Mine is a deeper dull red. I specialize in these colors, but mostly on the 1851-57 3-cent imperforates. I'm not as good with the perforated colors.

Your image comes across as claret-ish to me, but it's impossible for me to tell what the true color is, because I don't know how accurately your scanner reproduces colors.
