Hi...looking for some assistance with this one. Saw it a few weeks ago and bought it while I was at work, when time was running out, and thought I saw maybe a face at 11:00 on the cancel, but never could find it in Skinner and Eno afterwards.

Thought I'd see if anyone else can see something, or if I'm just sh out of luck on this one...

Appreciate the help!
Thanks, Ray

"Ray, please make yourself comfortable. Yes, right there on the couch. Now ... for this week's session, I'd like to begin by showing you some ink blots."

KGB, thank you for the laugh! I often think of similar situations while pondering the minutia of various philatelic topics.

Ray, good question. I don't ever recall seeing such a cancel in any of the reference materials that I have read. I have looked at it from various angles and I cannot surmise what that cancel could depict. Regardless, I love these types of mysterious objects. Maybe someday another one will pop up that will provide a place of origin or a better impression that will make it obvious what it depicts. I cannot help you, but I do enjoy these types of subjects and enjoy collecting them. I'll keep an eye out for you.

I would guess that this might be a partially struck New York foreign mail cancel. I'm an experienced fancy-cancel collector, and the fact that I have to "guess" that this "might" be some certain "type" of cancel raises a significant question: If a cancel collector also has to stretch the imagination this far, then would this cancel be collectible as a fancy cancel, even if it could be deciphered? It might be comparable to a scarce but mutilated stamp. Having a scarce but mutilated stamp in my collection would eventually be unsatisfying because I want whole stamps in my collection.
