Quote: Stamp Smarter has a free online database of US plate numbers from 1847 thru about 2001. Don Kudos for this. But it appears that few records after the beginning of 1996 have plate numbers listed. Still, it is useful alternative to Durland. |

Blcjr, after approximately 1996 the Bureau of Engraving and Printing was not the only printer of stamps any longer. All of the older plate numbers were discontinued and the P11111 and S11 and so on started to appear.

blcjr, Sorry, I thought we got through about 2001 done. There are still well over 150,000 plate numbers entered in the database. If anyone is interested in helping adding plate numbers, I am sure my wife would be appreciative (since she was the angel who entered the majority of the numbers). Simply drop me a note and we can work out the details (Excel spreadsheet can be ported into the SQL database.)
Robert, Thank you very much for asking. We got a bit of good news from the second specialist at Duke Cancer Center this week. He is willing to attempt a surgery to remove my bladder, prostrate, and some lymph nodes that are probably involved. I have a few additional tests this week down there (10 hour round trip) this week but if these all check out the I will be undergoing the operation later this month. I consider myself the luckiest man on earth. It is a blessing to have such wonderful support of my wife, family, and friends (including my online friends). I can't imagine trying to go through this alone. This will not be a cake walk but it is hope, which was in low supply after the first specialist's opinion. Don

Lukusw, there is also the hard copy Heberts Reference Guide of Plate Number Singles that lists from the Columbian Issue Scott 230 to date. It is issued by the American Plate Number Society (APNSS). Here are photos of the 2011 issue I bought for $36 then never used. It shows all numbers and relative values with scarce plates in bold print and can serve as a checklist. I never used it so it is like new. Anyone wanting to put it to use can PM me and I will mail it off to you. It is about 600 pages double side printed (1200 pages of plate number info). |

Crouse27, thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, I don't think my finances can handle the addition of another niche for collecting at this time. |
