Help please....
While searching thru some inexpensive plate # strips 5
I have a #1897A 2c Locomotive with PLATE #1.
I see that SCOTT and BROOKMAN does not have a listing for
this plate #.
They show #2-4,6,8 and 10.
Any help is appreciated.

Is there a "¢" sign after the "2", if there is it's actually a 2226 not 1897A.

Kevin, is there a seam line? It and the lack of the cent sign mean that it is Scott 2226. This stamp was printed on the "B-press" and the design was slightly modified so the plates would fit this press. Plates 2, 4, 8 & 10 were printed on the old, now dismantled Cottrell presses and show a distinct seam- or joint line. Go to www.pnc3.org for more info!

My 2008 Durland doesn't show a plate # of 1 either. Could it be plate #10 with a missing 0? My second thought is that it might be 2226 rather than 1897A. Then I read all of the other posts that I somehow missed on my first pass.
