Go to this site. It will tell you what to look for to identify a type-II from a type-I

I found this 2 cent carmine similar to the picture above the perfs. is 11 on all 4 sides length is 22.5 and with is 19.5 I looked it up only one with that perfs on all 4 sides but the measurements are not adding up . Could the stamp have shrunk and this is why the perfs is not matching this stamp.

Now I'm confused. I thought the 1847 website dealt with the 1908 to 1923 Washington-Franklins. The above stamps are a later issue. Do the same rules apply? Some of them can't such as the left and right ribbons. Help!

When you go to the site click on the 1922 link. That is where the info is. The big difference between type l and type ll is in the recut hairlines. Once you see the difference on a stamp it will become pretty easy to recognize it.

Jack, the 1847 website deals with all regular issues. No commems! When you click on the homepage, a list of all the issues treated is on the left hand. Click on the issue you want and there you go!

Petert4522,

Oh yes; I see it now. I never knew it was there. I didn't see where to determine the differences between a Type 1 and a type 2. Also, from what I do see, Type 1 and Type 2 Washington stamps are all Rotary Press.

Yes, they are all rotary. The real fun item to find is a 599/599A coil line pair, mint or used but especially used.

All type l and type ll stamps of this design are rotary. This design is also a flat plate stamp but not as perf 11x10.5 or as a coil, which is what the type l and type ll are.

This link should help you greatly concerning Type I and II 1922 2c issues: http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847usa...34vs634A.htm

Unfortunately, that link is very difficult to find from the homepage.

It is a stamp that is possible to find, keep 1 of your examples of a normal one so you will always have something to compare it too.
