There is definitely something going on. Dried ink could have accumulated in that spot on the plate. Could be a re-entry like a double transfer. With a scan we could look for more evidence of a double transfer in that area.

Perhaps we should consult the French book of U.S. varieties?

stallzer,
I prefer the U.S. book of French varieties, but you are probably right that your reference would be more authoritative. I'm still struggling with the language barrier though. Any French speakers here? Whenever I try to translate the French book, I keep coming up with recipes for Freedom Fries...

Gracie,
Please have merci on our souls.

interesting stamp, some sort of EFO happening.

...and I'd say, in regards to smauggies groaning, I'd bet he's responding to Historical DNA Collector's plethora of French puns etc. No need to take offence.

Definitely looks like a double 'T' but there doesn't appear to be any other 'doubling' in that location or anywhere???

I don't think the problem--on other threads (this is not directed at Gracie personally on this thread but at her comment about others on other threads) is educated or uneducated. I think it has to do with willingness to be educated, on the one hand, and obstinate unwillingness to accept answers that are contrary to one's hopes or expectations, on the other hand. Generous sprinklings of smilies and hahahahas and LOLs don't really manage to hide the obstinacy.

Sorry, but I don't really see any doubling at all. I zoomed in a little on Gracie's stamp, and scanned one of my copies below. Both seem to have the same width of the letter "T", and the same shadows in the same places. Can someone point out where the "T" is obviously doubled?

Through all the debate, apparently nobody has looked at images
of the 219... there's nothing unusual or odd about what's being
discussed here... there's no EFO or anomaly going on here...

Look at the listings...

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
I'm spreading humor like a virus!

I hereby decree that henceforth, all topics concerning plate varieties of any and all sorts must contain at least one humorous reference to my ignoraminity! (Is that even a word?)
...or until the moderator gets sick of it!
