Gracie, it is extremely difficult to tell what color that is. What looks red on my computer looks maybe orange on another, and brownish on a third one. Unless you have something of a known color, like maybe a color chart it is impossible to say what hue your stamp is!

Gracie the stamp may be somewhat oxidized. On red stamps, oxidation browns the color and the color may be uneven.

gracie1125 it looks like it may be lake, but color examinations on PC monitors are not a full proof way of determining such.

You may want to invest in this Scott's Specialized Color Guide for United States Stamps.

This proves quite helpful for determining color - at least for me.

Regards,

jim6092252, if the colors of those images you posted are even remotely accurate, neither of those are scarlet.

gracie1125, yours might be lake, but the color looks altered to me (lake is the most common shade for type II designs, so a good guess.)

I got it of the stamp Identifier web sight . It was what they posted as a true lake on the Swedish Tiger Us stamp Identifier.

Kingstonstamper, the stamp on that cover is not lake, unless the color of the image is "way" off. It's type I for sure, and looks to me like the shade could be either carmine (Scott 319) or scarlet (Scott 319c.)

I believe the Lake shade did not appear before the fall of 1908. The 1904 date on the cover indicates it could not be a lake.
