Apparently these are still slowly finding their way into collectors' hands.

Hi Oracle, and yes, they will be coming out I suppose. But for ease of finding this post, could you repost this on the original thread? That way we can all find them in one spot!

Peter

Be happy to move the post, but which original thread are you referring to - I see about a dozen of them out there. Thanks.

Some older data points - Siegel sold one pane at auction in June 2014 for $45,000 & Regency Superior sold a single stamp at auction in August 2014 for $12,500, both prices before buyer's premiums. One article last January mentions a private sale by Gitner for $55,000, but didn't provide any other evidence or details.

A single stamp, someone should be banned from stamps for breaking up something with only 100 made but then again in my opinion the post office should stand in the corner for the whole idea

Dedicated collectors may agree with that opinion, however, for those who are just looking at it for a quick profit, a single stamp realizing $12,000 multipled by six stamps in a souvenir sheet would fetch $72,000 as compared to a complete souvenir sheet selling in the $50,000 to $60,000 range.

It's greed, pure and simple.

Looks like one of the upright panes is being offered in a Kelleher auction (lot 1268) towards the end of the month. It's listed under "Modern Errors" which Is a bit funny given that it was a deliberate "error". Current bid is shown as $37,500 with an estimate of $75,000-100,000. Even though I think the USPS was way off base with this whole affair, I still sure wish I had found one.
