Cancels Add Value Or Rarity?

I am putting a USA collection in a pocket book and I am noticing certain cancels. I wanted to know if that ads to Scott value or is it value to the collector. For example I have a few #219 dark green- two have Puerto Rico and two have Philippine's cancels also a #dark blue 233 with a Philippine's Cancel. I have special deliveries with "Time Square" "New York" Double Cancels 15Cent, 8 cent US airmail with a US Air Mail and Plane cancel, US Air Mails with "Grand Central Station", "Church Street Station" and "Lenox Hill Station"

nice looking cancels can add to the value, if you can put some pictures because some of these sound like they may be overprints or precancels.

The Puerto Rico cancels are probably the best of what you mentioned.

yes it can increase the value of the stamp. ..Philippines stamps have different handstamps, and different surcharges colors too depending on year of stamp ect. For example, between 1881-88, they have black yellow, green, red, blue and magenta colors as surcharges. In 1897, stamps of previous handstamp surcharge are in blue, red black and violet. if you have cover envelope can be in the hundred of dollars
Water marks or unwatermarked may also be necessary when to see if stamp depending on year the stamp was issued.. There are special fluids that are used to check these matters with any stamps if it specifies in Scott's year.
The ones issued under US Administration..have to have perforations measured 12 and unwatermark for Scott 212 which over print is black. and watermark of double USPS for Scott 213-240.
($1,$2, and $5 stamps) with red overprints are known to be very valuable. They were done between 1901- 1904. For example,The $5 stamp Philippines Scott 239 dark green used is more valuable than unused stamp.It has been written in Scott Cat. in the $5,000 dollar range. The Scott 239 dark green with red overprint would definitely need to be checked by specialist to make sure it genuine rare stamp to rule out that the cancellation is not forgery either.
The Philippines Scott 233, you mention is specified as 10 cents pale red, or red brown..if you have a pair of them with one without the overprint,known to be valuable. I am not aware about your shade color, but the 5 cent is known with the color blue. It would be interesting to view your stamps, if you are able to show the forum. smiles.

the 2 specail delivery are precancels the IR is a revenue stamp the Porto Rico and Phillipennes actually come from those countries

Some post offices bring added value, but only to those who wish to acquire them. Like DPO'S (Dead Post Offices) !

Hi Jerry..i looked threw briefly at your album..I liked the special Delivery Stamps. there are 3 types with flatplate printing perforated 1 with the Messenger Running 10 cent blue...are all of them used? the one in the last row behind the other two, with the straight edge is that a used stamp? they can be in the hundreds if in mint condition. you need to check if has line under "Ten Cents" that tells the difference between an E2 and E4..also with Watermark with the double USPS would be an E5.
I also like your confederate state stamps, but they are very well known for a lot of forgeries. Now if they are real, those are highly collectable and can be very valuable used. You should get them checked out in person. See if you can get information about a stamp show/ stamp club in your area and talk to them as well. In my opinion, would not sell them until seen in person and see if genuine and still be careful.If they are real get them certified. You definitely should get Scott Catalogue and see section about Confederate State stamps.

I think the special deliver in the front is an E1, you have some good stamps in there, if you put it on ebay or something let us know

The Confederate State....Let me give you an example..if this a genuine Jefferson Davis Ten Cents blue.There are two very expensive ones from Apr, 1863..Scott # 9 and #10. Scott #9, it is soft porous paper line engraved. One plate of 200 subjects all of which were precut. as every copy examine to date shows distinct recutting. the Earliest known cancellation is April 23,1863. There is a milky blue, which is the first printing, and 10 cent gray blue..cancellations are blacktown, bluetown, greentown, black gridiron, blue gridiron, red gridiron, railroad, and pen.(100.00) used condition is about 175.00 range catalogue.

Then there are Soft Porous Paper Line, Scott #10. one copper plate of 100 subjects all but one which was recut. Earliest known April 19, 1868.Prices are for copies show part of the lines on three or four sides for more. This is a A6a 1c blue..used can be in the 725.00 cat. range.
Then there is Thick or Thin paper which is Die A or Die B. from 1863-64 these are not so expensive stamps if used, but good price for covers. The slight differences between an Die A is with slight markings..the most noticable is the ornaments at the four corners which is Die B ..unless on covers not so much expensive.for used it is under 10 dollar range.
That is why I said to please get them checked out carefully face to face with someone able to tell you different things about them.

The Andrew Jackson two cents..has one plate. it was issue to prepay drop letter and circular rates..it comes in two colors,brown red, and pale red..if genuine used around $90.00 cat value.
The George Washington 20 cent green has different shades of green. mint is range of $13.50, used about $85.00 cat value for yellow green and dark green the same values.
Again, I would talk to someone that concentrates with knowledge Confederate State Stamps. They may be more in demand in market in one area than another too especially if they are genuine..

Now, this is interesting..i was checking with another specialized Scott catalogue, and Andrew Jackson, 1863, engraved,,has 2 cent brown red for $70.00 mint and $350.00 used, and no gum, $55.00, 2 cent pale red $90.00 and $450.00 used, no gum..$70.00.

For 20 cent george washington green,price range for $37.50 range mint, and $400.00 used, gum..25 dollars, for yellow green $70.00 and $450.00 used, and $47.50 for no gum, and dark green, $65.00 dollars, and 500.00 used, and no gum $45.00.

This book is several years old.. So, it does increase in value too for these stamps from the other Scott book I was giving values..

The confederates have a number on the back of the plastic case

one Scott 6 unused looks like light gum, was hinged and has a small sticker looking spot on it
