The scan isn't detailed enough to see the plating marks, but the circle of the toga button is thick and the top line of the toga rope is definitely complete. I think that they are clearly #500.

We could see much more detail if you crop it to just one stamp, then reduce the file size. I'd like to see this done for the bottom right stamp. Or you could crop it to just this area:

Historical DNA Collector,
I was just told that if 900 dpi is not enough my friend will put it on a web page & supply me with a link to share with you folks. It could then be viewed in 2400 dpi. Or I could send a flash drive to whoever you choose. Please let me know if either options would help.

Hi again,
I was posting to you when your post came in. I think I can have that one

If you crop it like the example, then it will be small enough. Posting a link to it would also work. There's no need for anything elaborate. We're giving you opinions over the Internet. However, your #500 block shows the type Ia characteristics pretty clearly.

In your case, a certification would be a good thing. It would document condition issues like the horizontal crease along the perfs. Some things like perf creases can only be clearly seen by physical examination. Given that you are a novice, a cert would greatly increase a prospective buyer's confidence.

For convenience, call me DNA or Ryan.

Just tried to put it in. It was not magnifiable so I deleted it. This is not my area of expertise. I will work at it until I get it right. Please bear with me.

Dear DNA,
I've uploaded a new image per your request.
Let me know if this is not sufficient.
Thanks for all your help.

Or you could scan it @ 1200 DPI and host it free on Photobucket and just link the IMG tag into the thread.

Members,
The link below will take you to the photo that I believe is 2400 dpi.
Thanks to all,
Bob

Bob,
You're welcome. Your link doesn't work, but that's okay. It would be nice to see the plating marks for ourselves, but I can see the type Ia characteristics clearly enough in the last image posted. From reading the thread that I linked, can you see how your block is different from #499? For bonus points, try to figure out what position type each stamp is.

Bob, the link points to an image stored in your email, and no one should be able to see it unless they login to your email server as you. :)

Bob,
In your brief time on this forum you have gotten many things to think about. You seem to genuinely want to improve your stamp selling ability. I hope that everyone's input helps you and your customers.

I look forward to hearing from you when you get enough time to process all of the information in the linked thread. Besides bonus points, I hope that you find it interesting.

Your block does have some significant condition issues. For example the bottom was originally a straight edge. I am not experienced enough to give you input about how much such things affect its value.

Hopefully others will chime in to give you advice. Especially how to most accurately describe it. I still think that a cert would be a good idea because not all defects are noticeable in a scan.

I wish you the best possible in terms of best serving your customers and thereby yourself.

Whoever 'perfed' the bottom just baffles me. Why would this have been done?

Ryan,
Wow, I did mention my fathers and his father collected stamps. I did not say or post was my grandfather was the superintendent of the Elmwood Station Prov. RI Post Office. I have his ID badge & letters from the US Gov. I also did not mention my Mothers father & grandfather were stamp collectors. I have found 3 revenue stamps from 1860s with my great, great grandfathers initials on them. LLB Levy Lyman Burdon. Lyman is my middle name as well. I am so shocked to hear of a reperf. To my knowledge these stamps have not been touched in many years. I will be sending it out for a cert. I did send 82 stamps out for certs to PSE. You may have seen some my listings. Due to my inexperience they reeled me in like a fish. Who would certify 12 # 26 & 12 # 65s. I went to a stamp show in NYC. in 2009.They should have sent me home. After I gave them the stamps to certify, they offered to fly back east to meet with me for some more! Sorry If I sound like I am venting. Anyway thanks for the good news.
I am very interested in stamps. It must be in my blood.
I will continue to post when I can.
Bob
