Here's an interesting item I found on ebay. Was it common (or generally available to the public) to secure a "press sheet" of 200 stamps before they were cut into panes of 50? This happens to be US Scott #1267, but I don't recall seeing it before on stamps of this vintage:

I don't think it's laminated, but it does have a plastic "coating" over it that may be removed. It would seem the seller is not a stamp collector, but the seller's description reads as follows:

Quote:
Sheets have been plastic coated for preservation

Plastic covering may be removed for use of stamps

The reason I brought this up in the first place is that I don't recall seeing too many "gutter" blocks of stamps from the mid-1960s so I don't think the 200 subject "sheet" was commonly available at that time, as my assumption was that they would have been cut into panes of 50 before being shipped to post offices for retail sales.

Never heard of a press sheet being available from that era.

The perf rows do not align between the panes and the pane cuts are visible. I think this is 4 panes reassembled into a simulated press sheet. Look closely.

IMO 4 separate panes carefully positioned and held in place.

Notice what appears to be the background showing through on the far right side of the two right panes between the last three stamps.

Original asking price was $19.95 + $5 shipping. But the seller accepted someone's best offer.
