It's in poor condition, but I love this kind of thing. I hate that the cancellation ink must have been made with salad dressing oil... But, I believe it may have been plated by Dr. Chase. So that's nice.

Neat cover. I think it is even more interesting with the PAID 3 cancel. I agree that is Chase's distinctive writing.

I have in my collection a cover that was double rate both directions, each way paid with a pair of Type IV, 26A stamps. What are the odds??? I dislike immensely #10 covers in my collection and I am reconstructing the Type IV plates but so far I have resisted the temptation to remove the stamps.

sinclair2010, that twice used, with 26A pairs must be very very rare. Couldn't you use a photo copy of the stamps to use in your plate construction?

I don't dislike #10s in any form!! But, I don't have an abundance of them. None on cover.

Maybe by #10 covers Sinclair meant the envelope size?

If you tell me envelopes have plate varieties too, I'm out!

It does of course make sense that they have a numbering system.

Legal size envelopes are #10's and letter size are #6.
