I came across what appears to be Scott 482 Type I with Type III Schermack Perfs which Scott Catalog indicates a 482 would be in colors: Deep Carmine, Carmine Rose or Deep Rose. However, in the Private Perfs section it indicates the Type I with Type III Perfs is only listed in Carmine and this stamp appears more in the Carmine Rose color. When scanned in 2400 dbi, it is clearly Type I and also clearly Type III perfs...so what is it?

What is it? It's off-center. (Wink.)

It's off center because it was used in an afixing machine and the stamps were not lined up perfectly.

The color when compared to many other period "Carmine" looks far closer to Carmine Rose which is whats throwing me off. It doesn't appear "faded". Being a Type I makes it difficult to determine more with any certainty. Thanks for the replies!

Carmine is not the most stable color and the stamp is almost 100 years old. Plus we know nothing of how it spent most of it's life. All of these shades were determined at the time the stamps were issued; at this point some variation is all but guaranteed.
