When I returned to collecting and purchased a US Album, I just assumed I had to fill every space (part of my anal-retentive personality). I didn't realize that some people collect only what they want to...

Anyway. I really like the Transportation Series, but if I were starting over again today, I'm not sure I would collect the coil pairs. I mean, if I have the single, I could probably live without the pair. But I've already started filling those spaces and I'm no quitter

The real purpose of this post is to thank 1775mac for helping me with several pairs I lacked.

Here's the page after Mac's help:

On second thought, those pairs are mighty pretty, aren't they?

KirkS

P.S. It really is a great series -- thematic, interesting, plentiful, finite, and affordable.

Very impressive. I like to collect coils in pairs unless the price is unrealistic.

Nice presentation Kirk. I agree, I really don't need the pairs but they do present nicely and don't look quite so incomplete in being perforated only on two sides.

Kirk, this is awesome! Do you make your own pages or them? I like the way you set them up, my album came with pages and pictures and seem to be randomly scattered (though they are not), and I'm thinking of buy stock and doing my own, just not sure what to use.
Thanks,
Jay

Thanks Jay:

I know there are several folks here who make their own pages. I'm not one of them -- I just bought myself an album, but if I were starting again today, I'd probably do my own.

There's a great website at http://www.stampalbums.com/ where for $30, you can download and print just about every country in the world. My suggestion to you is to go there and look around, but don't join yet.

Wait for some others here to weigh in with their suggestions. And try a few different ideas before you spend money on anything.

Another site worth visiting is http://www.philosateleia.com/ -- there you'll find a set of totally free pages, but only for the United States. If you have a worldwide collection, you'll have to stick with the first site. But for US, you can just print them on some decent paper (acid-free, heavy weight) and put them in 3-ring binders.

I'm sure some of the other folks will have some good ideas for you.

Good Luck,
KirkS

Thank you Kirk! Gotta save these links. You seem to have an eye for keeping things straight and square. Something I don't have.

I too love coil pairs. I started making my own album pages for them but kind of backed off collecting them after I saw the price on some of the Washington-Franklin issues: especially brutal are some line pair prices.

ellasguy, The coil singles in the Washington-Franklins can be pricey too, particularly the first series of coils. Don't know about you, but the W/F's are probably my favorite stamps. You would not think that such a simple design could generate so many varieties. A completed page of them in an album is a very attractive sight.

Yes they are a favorte of mine too. I was collecting used blocks of them for a while before I started selling some on ebay to finance a few coin (my first love) purchases.
