Modern US issues generally are not pleasing to look at. But I was just looking at a block of the Hudson River School (Scott# 4917-20) issue and find these pleasing to look at. Maybe because I recently completed a 19th century art course at Boston University these stamps capture my imagination. These paintings embody the attempt of 19th century artists to capture the awe inspiring nature of the American landscape. The USPS needs to create more issues of this nature. Too Bad I have never received one of these on an incoming piece of mail!
