I was working through a packet of stamps and ran across something I've never seen before, and wondered if it might be a rarity. The stamp itself not a rarity, per se. It is Scott 1054A, Palace of the Governors, Santa Fe. And while I have seen line pairs before, what struck me as highly unusual was that the stamp pair was used. Cancelled. Is my thinking correct that a used line pair would be much rarer than a MNH line pair?
Hi AlanB, there are some cases in which the used line pairs are very scarce and in demand, such as some of the Washington-Franklins of the 1908-20 era, however from the 1920s to present, they are mostly not scarce, I am sorry to inform you.
The Scott 1054A used is priced lower than unused (both for the small and large hole varieties), which would infer that it is either more common, less demand, or both. These coils were printed in the many Millions, so during the intended period of use as well as non-contemporary uses much later would result in many pairs/line-pairs being used (being a small denomination fractional rate).
