Problem: two stamps in my MNH U.S. collection appear that they're going to try to defy any attempt I make to put them in my album -- Scott numbers 796 and 1363.

None of the "standard" pre-cut U.S. mount sizes work for them. Does this mean that one is faced with having to purchase an entire package of strips at the correct height for just for one stamp, with the rest of the package going to waste?

It looks like 44mm will work for 1363, but I'm stuck with 30mm for 796, as there does not appear to be a 29mm size available (the more common 31mm height is too much, and 28mm looks too short).

Does anyone sell them loose?

I'll check, I may have a 30mm strip I could send you.

Thank you -- I'll reimburse you with pre-cuts -- let me know your preference for dimensions (I've always got some J, JV, C, CV, AH, T, E, and EH on hand).

If Tom doesn't have them shoot me an email. I do. I use them for my German and some US. Do you have a cutter or do you need them cut to a specific width?

For the Virginia Dare issue (#796), the stamp looks to be square, so the mount would just need to be as wide as it is tall. I don't have a cutter yet, and I've been making the few cuts I have with an Xacto knife (shortening a "J" pre-cut for the 1950s Ohio Sesquicentennial and James Monroe issues, and the 1938 Swedes and Finns).

The "A" size mount (e.g. the 1972 8c Stamp Collecting commemorative) is marked as 41mm x 31mm -- but it actually measures more like 34mm tall, which when cut square is too big for the stamp's place in the album. The "T" size (Famous Americans, Champions of Liberty) is 25mm x 27mm and just a smidgen too short -- looks to me that 29mm is the correct size, but Showgard doesn't make the strips in that height, so 30mm x 30mm looks like the solution.

The 1968 Christmas issue would work in a "JV" mount (25mm wide) were it not for the 44mm height.

Thanks very much for the responses...
