I'm one of those folks who abandoned their collection years ago and am just now going through boxes of stuff with everything just as I left it - kinda messy. Anyway, I'm looking through this pile of covers and found this and thought it might be interesting to share. It's one of those scam letters that came out of Nigeria back in the day before they switched to e-mail. I remember at the time I got it that I was pleased that someone I didn't even know took the time to write me and even went so far as to make their own stamp. That's really going the extra mile I figure. Needless to say I declined their offer of nine million dollars. The transaction just seemed too complicated. I actually have several of these (different designs) but where they are I couldn't say right now. So if you have one please show.

HI OG

A few years ago, I too received one of those covers from Nigeria with the exact same stamp. I have been informed that the stamp as well as the cancellation on the cover are both fakes.

Happy collecting

The 50 Naira rock bridge was the highest denomination
Nigerian scam.
The other was the 20 Naira Roan Antelopes.
The stamps were made from a colour photocopier.
Australia was targeted well it seems, I would have over 100
forged Rock Bridge stamps.

Didn't know about that one Rod.

At any rate, they are sure crude looking and usually a dead giveaway.

Cheers

The scammers used fake meters as well. I sold a handful of covers last year with totally bogus Lagos meters, with the original scam letters.

However, I do have a nice genuine pair of Roan Antelopes on piece, which are uncommon.
