The only way you can answer this mystery is to seek out a local dealer, stamp club, or a more experienced US collector and show it to them

What is the mystery???

I'm going to revisit this again.
Kevin, here is what I'm referring to....I know you're a well-known dealer and I've purchased from you in the past, and have a lot of respect....but can't believe that by looking at a image (and not a great image) that you can tell that it's a genuine 243.

A shaved down card proof, when it was maybe damaged, could be a possibility, india or other, and if faulty and tampered with, at 1/10th or 1/20th CV, wouldn't be worth much of anything.

I only mentioned that if the OP was going to sell the stamp, he should certify it..just wanted to clarify....thanks, Ray

ray.mac.....thanks for the nice comments.

I say immediately you can dismiss a proof.
The quality of the printing is NOT-PROOFLIKE.
Again....this is my opinion ONLY.

Scores like this definitely exist. I've hit a few myself. Including a $2 Columbian in a book with a lot of other nice stuff for about $60. If I remember right, I pulled 3 stamps from that album totaling about $1200 CV not counting anything else and it was packed with other stuff.

I used to come across lots like this frequently but not so much in the last couple years.

again, nice find!
