friend looked with correcto guage.. I said verticial perfs is 11 while other thought 10...checked with ronsonal..no watermark.. With perf 11. 5 types: 2c pale car. red, single wmk. type 1..(461), 2c rose perf. (not this due to no wmk) 11, flat plate, unwmk, type 1.(499) no lines in back of stamp....so it has to be one of the following:.2c deep rose..perf 11, un watermarked type 1a..(500)..2c carmine rose, perf 11, rotary press, unwmk, type 3 (546), carmine perf.11,offset unwk. type 1V (256)carmine, type V- (527), Type Va (528) Type V1(528a), Type V11(528b)..
now, the the rope shading lines are heavy, the shading lines of face at lock of hair has strong curved line..this is used only on rotary press..the top ribbon on toga rope is not broken..so it looks intact..type 2 or type 3... I donot see two lines in the shading in the curves of ribbon.. |

so, John..i am still learning about the types..what do you think it may be? I would be very surprise for type 1 a, but they had latter characteristics of type 11,and occurred on rotary plates. |

Not sure how one can mistake perf 11 vs 10. Your friend needs to learn to use a perf gauge properly. It is not printed by offset, so 526-528B can be eliminated. Not all flat plate printings will show lots of ink offset onto the back, so I believe you are premature to discount it not being a 499. I do not know what books or websites you are using to attempt IDs, but the identifier section in the front of the Scott US Specialized or the various web links which others have posted to your previous threads should provide guidance with pictures to narrow down the possibilities tighter. |
