20 some years ago when I first started getting serious with stamps..i used to purchase box lots..sometimes two huge cartons...it was a learning experience and filled a lot of spaces in my International albums..but I wonder if I was better off in an economic way...there are always many stamps I could not use and were difficult to trade or sell with another collector..lo these many years later I am still trading and selling these stamps !!

the good thing about box lots is that it gets you preoccupied or gives you something to do for days

I personally think "kilo" lots are a good way for newer collectors to get hands-on experience with a lot of stamps quickly. After two or three, though, the thrill goes away. I've bought them and loved them - now I don't have the time or patience to deal with them. Also, I think more advanced collectors are usually more interested in collecting specific material in any case.

I have yet to purchase a box lot. I think I would like to try one just to see what treasures lurk. But then again I have many stamps to sort through and not enough time to do so.

Phil:

Have your boxes ready for when I get down to NY State. I'll root through them. I'm sure I'll find somethng to lighten the load and fatten your wallet.

I'm still a sucker for box lots but, in general, I've become more discriminating than in the beginning. I'm sure that I'll leave some unsorted for someone. But, I still enjoy the thrill of the hunt.

I love them, lol! I love sitting down to so many stamps it makes me dizzy! And just spending hours sorting through them....sigh...

But, I am at the point with US used stamps that I will probably have to stop buying lots and look for the ones I need.
