Hi
Tonight was sign up time for my Stamp Collecting Merit Badge class. I got a good turnout considering the popularity of the other option offered (indian lore). I have eleven scouts signed up and class starts June 1st.

I am going to make joining here and asking questions and asking for advice part of the class. Hopefully they will come back and show off the collections that they start.

It will be interesting to see if any stay with us after they get the badge.

Richard

Ziggy,
That is a great way to get added interest in the merit badge and the hobby by using a modern tool such as the internet. I too was in scouting, I started in cub scouts as a Bobcat and made it to Life in the boy scouts, just 1 step below Eagle. I also was in Order of the Arrow as a Brotherhood member.

Good luck! If you need help, e-mail me. I taught the BSA Stamp Collecting Merit Badge.

As a kid, my father and I went camping and fishing every weekend during the summers. It was the greatest thing ever!

But, I was never a Scout. I regret that. I had a couple friends who were involved, but in my small town, it wasn't very organized and/or not many kids were involved. [all of that of course, filtered through a child's eyes].

Anyway, I respect all you Scouts.

Just kicking this to the top as a reminder that the kids will hopefully start posting Monday/Tuesday night. You will be able to recognize them as I have asked them to sign in with names that end in "scout"

Thanks
Richard

Best of luck with your worthwhile project. I'm sure that many of us started out with a cub or boy scout project in stamp collecting. The indicated interest level is real encouraging. We have a volunteer Dealer/Collector couselor for the merit badge program in our town but have seen no interest to date. Of course, It has not been agressively marketed either.
