When an 1851-57 3cent stamp has various known recut varieties, double transfers, engravers slips etc it's usually easier to plate. It becomes, at least at this early stage in my collecting, more difficult when a stamp lacks the more outstanding clues. I believe this stamp falls in that category.
First pic is taken with my camera. This shows better detail but the color isn't accurate.
The second image is with my scanner. This shows the color somewhat more accurate. I believe the color is Brownish Carmine.
As you can see there are some good clues.
Inner verticle frame lines both sides. Note the right side, frames lines are closer together about midway.
The upper portion of the upper right diamond block and the area of the upper label, right of the second E, appear to be recut.
The margin on the right side is large enough to tell me this stamp is from the 10th verticle row of the pane. If it were any other position, it would show a portion of the adjacent stamp.
With these clues I've plated this stamp as 80L1L.
There are a couple of other possibilities, but none of the sites have photos of those positions for comparison.
