Canada Post, I find, is very zealous in their use of them, too. I can't count how many items I've gotten, mailed from outside the country, that wind up with a Canadian inkjet cancel as well as their normal cancels. The net result is a total mess, and stamps that have little more use than as space fillers, if they're even worth soaking off.
It's come to a point where the only way to make sure they don't get the multiple cancel is to change the position of the stamp from the upper corner to lower on the envelope, and just ask for a hand cancel at point of mailing.
