A good candidate is Scott# 544, 1923 1c Green rotary coil waste, mint. About 20 examples known. Can be $25,000 at retail in high-graded condition.

I'd look at the early coil issues - Scott 314A, 316, and in particular 321 (2012 Scott $450,000).

paperhistory is right; a mint pair of 321, with two certificates, was sold by Spink for $350,000 in 2002.
