Does any on have any good tips on soaking self adhesive stamps ? These stamps seems to be made in layers ... and don't part from the paper backing as quick as water activated stamps .
Welcome petrucellij. This topic was recently discussed, so rather than repeat it all again, do this. Click on "Last 100 Updated Topics" to the left of the page. Then scroll down until you come to "collecting stamps with self adhesives" and open it. There is some very good info that should help you decide what to do with self adhesive stamps.
Thankyou for your reply ... I referrenced that prior post . Though there was lively discussion no solution for the removeal of self adheasive stamps was offered . I am hoping someone has come up with a solution for removing these type of stamps from there backing.
I have found that some self adhesive (SA) are simply impossible. I've inadvertently destroyed several beautiful stamps by trying. Others soak off easily. What I do now is wait till I have at least two identical stamps and try soaking the worst of the two. I have had considerable success with many SA by checking the back of the paper to see if the envelope piece is equally moist before trying to remove the stamp. On a stamp that is not ready to separate from the envelope there is usually a distinct difference in the color of the envelope paper in the center of the stamp.
When it is ready some stamps can be "pealed" off the paper, always rolling the paper rather than the stamp. For those that won't peal off, I take these stamps and put them between my thumb and another finger and try to slide the stamp off the paper with a gentle sideways motion. In my experience a fair number of SA will slide off. Those that won't are the impossible ones.
I suggest that you get a bunch of different surplus SA stamps and experiment. I've destroyed a lot of stamps before I got a feel determining which sA will or will not separate from the envelope. I hope this helps at least a little with advise you are seeking.
