Cherrystone are auctioning a MNH set and prices are currently 14K for the whole lot !... Given their centering and conditions, how much do you think that they would go for? Note: I aint buying that. can't afford it. just curious.

It's opening at about 41% of cat, which is a very high percentage. It's a nice set but not an amazing set, and all have PSE or PF certs. A lot would depend on exactly what people think the $2 would grade, whether it would grade above an 85. |

 The $2 looks like an 80 to me. The centering is shifted left and downward quite a bit. |

The two different sets mentioned here are excellent examples on the importance of condition in determining value. Take note! There are 16 stamps in the set not 15 as Cherrystone states. Observation is also important! The ebay "set" is missing a stamp. |

Regarding the $2 centering, it looks less than VF80 to me, more like FVF75, but that's based on the scan appearance. At least there are certs, since the top denominations are commonly reperforated. |

Here is a pane and note the top row and left side are straight edges, that is, no perforations. The straight edge side is commonly reperforated to enhance the price of the stamp as collectors prefer perforations on all four sides. It is difficult to even find a picture of a high value straight edge single as most have been reperforated. |

Used to see straight edge higher value Columbians all the time in the 60's and 70's, but by the 90's they had become scarce to find. These days I might see a couple per year. |

BTW, I think the $2 would probably get an 85. I'm not sure that the set will get a bid unless it's a collector looking for a half cat set or a dealer with customers ready to buy. |

The Cherrystone set is very nice, where the bids end up is where the value should be. This is usually poorly centered issue. |

@RevCollector,
May I know the reason as to why you pointed out the $2 piece and not the others?
Surely a NH $4 is even rare. Am I right? |

The $2 is tough to find centered and in this set it is the best centered of the high denominations making it a key item. |
