You are both right on the mark with the warning. I have read a number of warnings referring to NY Stamps. I will try to use caution when looking at their listings. Maybe avoiding them would be a better idea.
I am still curious about the ? postmark. Do you think that it is just a drawing with a marker?
Does look odd, but could be a fountain pen from the era. I would consider it a pen cancel, which may or may not be in-period. NOT a fancy cancel by any means... (even extreme Rorhschach enthusiasts shouldn't try to defend it).
orstampman, My need to acquire more knowledge, far exceeds my need to buy stamps I know little about. I do not have enough control. Maybe there is a program for stampaholics like me.
