Weird! I registered on this forum back in June 2015 but, apparently, have never said a darn thing on it!

Well, here goes my intro:

I was born in Dallas, Texas, more than 50 years ago and have lived in Phuket (pronounced Poo-get) for almost 12. I arrived here just two days before the 2004 tsunami....

I teach English here and am currently the deputy head teacher for the largest language school/teachers' agency in the province. Keeps me busy!

I've collected stamps since I was around 9 or 10 years old. I recall receiving my mother's old album (Scott Modern, copyright 1938) on my 10th birthday but don't remember if I collected anything before that. I collected US new issues and general worldwide back then.

Although there were brief periods when I put the collection on hold, I never really stopped. I specialized in classic Great Britain for a while, put together some nice single-country collections, dabbled in postal history for a time, went back-and-forth between first day covers and signed space covers (mainly pre-Shuttle test flights), and more.

I attended many local stamp shows in the Midwest in the 1980's and 1990's but only got to one international-level exhibition -- Pacific 97.

When I left for Thailand, I put everything into storage. A year after my move, the storage facility burned down and I lost everything (the photos my family sent were heartbreaking!).

I started anew with Thailand new issues. It's a great country to collect with a (fairly) reasonable amount of stamps each year with interesting topics and (mostly) nice designs. Postcards became a passion of mine and I joined Postcrossing.

About three years ago, I became inspired to start collecting "A Stamp from Everywhere" -- obtaining stamps in (mostly) alphabetical order. I soon found that I often couldn't settle on just one stamp from many issuing entities so it's now become a collection of "Stamps from (Almost) Everywhere" as there are certain issuers that I will never be able to afford a stamp from (Confederate Postmasters' Provisionals, for example).

Thus, I suppose I am -- once again -- a general worldwide collector. I am designing my own album pages this time around, only including the stamps that I actually own, rather than including spaces for stamps I will never fill. A new page is designed as soon as I have enough stamps to fill it...

I also have an ever-increasing range of topicals I collect. These include Education on Stamps (I am a teacher, after all); US History; Mystery Writers and Works (especially revolving around Edgar Alan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie); and Pioneers of Aviation.

I do have several blogs covering stamps and postcards (one's a daily endeavor!). But I cannot (yet) provide links. When I reach 50 quality posts, I'll let you know where to find me....

Cheers!

Hi, and I never put my BIO up. It's OK, but these days so much information can be used by others I'd rather just stay in the back round a little.

Hi!
It's fascinating to see how many people from around the world there are on this forum. Sorry to hear about you losing everything in storage - it must have been very upsetting. But happy that you have started collecting again.
It's great that you make your own album pages. Then you don't have pages and pages of empties just begging to be filled.
Annette
