OK, to recap...

Lesson 1: never throw anything away
Lesson 2: never "stick" a stamp to anything
Lesson 3: never play with scissors
Lesson 4: ?

Don't put stamps in water to soak off paper and then go away and forget about them. I had a half dozen or so that I wanted off paper so I put them into a small container to get them done. Something happened, I think we had company drop by, so I set them out of the way. I forgot about them that night, and the next day I was going away for a couple of days. I got home and the container was almost dry and what wasn't just stuck hard to the side of the container after the water evaporated, was like a gluey mush in the bottom.

And this wasn't my mistake a friend told me she did this. She was using a touch of bleach in her water to get some yellowing out of a few stamps. It works well. IF you only use it for a few seconds and rinse right away. She found out the hard way you can't go off and talk on the phone for a half hour or so. She came back to find some dingy white stamp shaped pieces of paper in her water.

Three days of sorting and evaluating stamps.... the phone rang.....my kids had let the dog in. You can imagine what happened next. I had to repeat all the work I'd done. Yes, the dog still lives.

Clever use of irony in your topic title, Kirk.

P.S. I think he spells it Stoop Diddy.

Hey! I think my post count just dropped a couple.

I started this thread in June of last year and until you pointed it out, I never noticed the misspelled title.

Good catch, CJD!

In my youth, I wanted to use mounts for some mint stamps but the only 'affordable' mounts at the time were clear tubes of plastic of a brand name I cannot recall. The stamp was simply slid into the mount and the mount was cut to fit. The problem that arose was that the stamps would slide out while turning album pages so I used scotch tape to close the ends and the glue migrated into the stamps and album pages over time. Expensive lesson learned; fortunately, with beginner level stamps.
