Hi, in my continuing acquisition efforts to increase my US classic holdings I got this US #11. It is the oldest unused stamp I have. As I upgrade my collection I might put some the replaced stamps up for sale on SCF.

I always appreciate comments and suggestions.

Congrats on your acquisition. A nice-looking plate 4 stamp.

What is that large spot on the lower neck? At first glance, it Looks like an inking variety as it is the same color as the stamp, but there appears to be a corresponding stain on the back.

I've owned thousands of these 3-cent imperforates, and have never seen anything like this.

Classic Coins, I am not sure what that spot is. The seller described it as a paper flaw.

Just a thought, but could it be a wood fiber. Sometimes when the paper is made not all the wood fiber turns into paper. This could have left a slightly thicker spot on which the inkt settled. I could be wrong but it looks like the color of the spot is different on the front and the back. What I can not figure out is why the spot is darker at the bottom and is lighter towards the top, maybe ink flowing away from the highest point. Kind regards, johan.

I vote for ink spot. It appears to be bleeding out in places near the bottom. George has a very pleasant smile on this stamp!

yakboomer, does the ink spot look like exactly the same ink color as the stamp ink? There appears to be a white shadow below the ink spot on the front. Makes me wonder if the spot was applied to hide a scrape or something.

Classic Coins, and everyone, here are enlarged snips of that spot, front and back. The seller on ebay that I got this from I consider very trustworthy, but nobody is perfect, especially in this business.
