I'm going through a box of inherited stamps, and have found several old ones with the initials "TCS" perforated in the middle of the stamp. This is a picture of one of them, Scott #817. I can't find anything in Scott's, here, or on Google about them. Would appreciate any information.

Generally those are know as 'perfins'. Business would have the company name in initials mostly, logo occasionally, punch into the stamp. Principally to deter theft. There are special clubs and publications dedicated to 'perfins'.

Try this site: http://www.perfins.org/

Still, we have not truly answered your question.
We'd need a perfin catalogue to tell you what TSC is an acronym for.
A question for you: Is the stamp you've shown just on a piece as shown or is it on an entire cover?

If you have the entire cover look at whom the sender is that may answer the question!

These stamps were all removed from the envelopes long before I got them. I haven't counted them, would guess I have two or three dozen so far, but I'm still sorting. I'm not sure if they all have the same initials, either, I didn't look at them that closely.

Elaine, Can you identify a city or state in the cancelation?
It may give a clue as to what TSC means!

No city or state on the cancellations, the scan above is typical. All the people who saved these lived in northern Minnesota, and most organizations sending mail to them would have been in that state.

Maybe Tractor Supply Co. They had a large mail order
business in the midwest during the Prexie issue time
that would have required use of a large amount of
stamps. Here is a website about them

I live in Minnesota, I can see what I can find out.
Meostamps could be correct.

They were all farmers, so they may very well have corresponded with Tractor Supply Company!
This is fascinating. When I have a chance, I'm going to dig them all out and start investigating.

BTW, when I went to www.perfins.org, it appears all the groups are in other countries.
I couldn't find one in the U.S. Am I missing something?

Though not absolute, I would say that we have a high likelihood that, meostamp is correct. Being farmers in Minnesota and that the Tractor Supply Co. was based in North Dakota & Chicago starting in 1938 also the 1st year on the 'prexies'.

You were there it, perfins.org is based in the US. But you need to get a hold of the catalogue and they what $70 for it.
