Does anyone know what the die numbers denote? (4 in the wavy lines in the example)?

Thanks John,

So, if there are no die numbers, it means there was only one machine at that office? Or not necessarily?

Usually a good indicator, but not necessarily. The point being to quickly identify which machine made a cancel if there was need of inking, maintenance, operator error, etc.
