Stamp has no watermarks, so I think this is a 491 but its missing right side perfs. Or am I identifying this correctly?

Does not look like Type-2 (SC 491) to me.

The extra shading lines in the lower ribbons make this a type III, thus:
Scott 455 if single-line watermark or Scott 492 if no watermark.
The variable position of the single line watermark often makes it hard to find small portions of letters. Regardless, it is not a 491.

For the right side: your coil stamp went through an affixing machine which held a coil of stamps and dispensed one stamp for each push of the plunger - this advanced a stamp, moistened it and knifed it off leaving it on the mail piece. The affixer was slightly out of adjustment which accounts for the nearly-full perfs on the left side and none on the right. Most collectors would consider this stamp damaged because of the perforations, a few would appreciate it as evidence of its use. The Multipost was one of the more common affixers.

As John mentioned, single line watermark locations can make it difficult to find on a stamp. I developed a tool which illustrates this here
http://www.stampsmarter.com/learnin...ermarks.html (click on "PopUp US Watermark Location Tool" link and then select 'Single Line Watermark'. You can change watermark to various orientations and move the stamp around to see possible locations.)

Thanks guys, this is so interesting to me. I have so much to learn about stamps. It can be quite confusing with so many varieties of one type of stamp. Thanks for the education.

Hello Danny Parker, who have no idea what you can learn here on a daily basis. I love everyday and I check here about 3 times a day. I am too just learning and I love a good puzzle but there are days when I am overwhelmed, but then I read on and I am truly loving it. I just wish I had 1 or 2 hours a day just to sit and play with my stamps. hoping next year. but right now all I do is sort and learn. but I wont give up until I won. No idea how to gauge that but I will know on that day.
