The back of this stamp has plating notation in pencil indicating that it is a 77L2e. I checked Stamp Smarter and there is no image. Wondering if it is accurate and would that make this a 10A? Thanks for any help.

Thanks all. Here's the back of the stamp. You can see the pencil notation and a small hinge remnant.

Sorry, no help here.
I was hoping it was plated by Dr. Chase. We would've known by the writing.
There are other 3cent expert platers and someone here might recognize their notations. Alas I cannot.

Thanks for taking a look stampcrow. I have to admit that plating is new to me and I am amazed people can figure out what plate a stamp comes from let alone the position. Reading Chase's explanations give me a headache. :)

Nothing incorrect has been said so far. A 3c collector might tell you that, or remind others that, some late state stamps can be used to confirm early state stamps from the same plate and position. The same can be said going the other direction. I wouldn't try it with Plate 1L.

Louvig, it takes more than that one resource to plate some stamps.

Check out the USPCS website and of course the Stamp Smarter site. Even then...some stamps are difficult.

Did you understand what Sinclair2010 meant in his first reply?
It was rally good, succinct guidance. *something I'm not good at*

Go on the Stamp Smarter site and look at an image of a 77L2L.
