Tina, can you make the scan bigger? I can't tell what the stamp is.

I'm guessing it's one of those European war era issues in which there was a shortage of paper and stamps were printed on the back of large used paper sheets, such as maps...

But need to see the stamp more clearly to try to verify.

Latvian stamp printed on the back of a map. Very interesting.
Latvia has the most common & documented of the map stamps.

Try emailing Bill Apsit at bill@apsit.com
He should be able to give you real details.

Actually......it's not a map......it is printed on unfinished banknotes.

Very thick with a "silky" feeling.

I can agree with that, nr-notrare, still I'd talk to Bill Apsit.

There's about 6-8 Latvian stamps (a few are Airmails) printed on unfinished banknotes....

1919-1922 or so it was more important to have stamps than inflationary Rublis.

tina, the Scott # of yours is B4 which is a semi-postal.
I seem to have one similar - Scott # 63. It has the blue note back.

They remind me of those cards you used to get as a kid with a stick of gum. You get enough of them and you could complete the picture with their backsides. Sounds like fun to reassemble one of those banknotes.
