Hi my name is Austin. I have just begun collecting stamps. I am interested in collecting stamps from Germany. I am just learning about collecting from my father who is also on this board (rlorenz)
He does not specialize in German stamps so if anyone has any pointers I would love to hear about them.
Thanks and I look forward to getting to know some of you !
germany is a facinating country to collect. There are lots of interesting things to study, and there are some beautiful stamps, covers, and postmarks to collect.
At the start, work with a Scott catalogue for your Germany stamps. You probably have the easiest access to that. If you decide to specialise, you may want to consider getting an English Language edition of the Michel German Specialised Catalogue. That would be the most use to you.
The other pointers I would consider is getting ahold of a German-English dictionery (so you can translate the odd word you will see on a stamp, postmark or cover); and consider getting a decent map of Germany and area.
If you find you're really getting into collecting Germany, you may want to consider joining a Germany specialised society. I'm sure there is one that exists.
I did the aforementiond for my Costa Rica collection (I've been at it for five years) and I found that they really helped me along.
