How many times have you received well franked covers or what would be what I call a keeper only to find the stamps on the cover has a mangle ,you can see that the mangle was made after posting due to either a sorting machine or just shear neglect by the post ,I'll post a few examples of what would have been keepers but will now be soakers (with some).

This is a cover from India,as I don't have a Scott catalogue for these stamps I cant give you the Scott #numbers, all the five rupee stamps are mangled.

Scott # 948 mangled

This one the Scott #1915 missing from the block.

In this one the Scott #2034 coped a mangle

I must admit that the damage is only about 10% of the covers I receive but still it's a shame that those cover that are mangled won't be held for posterity.

regards to all
Harry

P.S.this is my gripe with the post

***** Harry, I have edited one of your pictures out as it contained the senders name and address.*****

Harry:

These are most unfortunate, but such is the challenge of collecting postally used. That said, part of the problem is the sender(s) put the stamps right to the edge of the envelope. It would be better for the stamps to have been put a good centimetre or so away from the edges of the envelope.

Yes David they would have been nice keepers but them's the brakes,I'm also guilty of pasting the stamp to close to the edge, old habits I guess.
Cover arrived in good order thanks mate.
Steve I didn't think the name was legible so I didn't worry thanks Steve.

I get these too; with perfs sometimes hanging out over the edge of the envelope.

Back to mangled covers. I suppose it is inevitable with automated machines. They speed delivery but the frequent machine damage is the price paid for faster delivery. Still, it seems to happen more often to nicer stamps than common flag stamps. Opps, sorry Londonbus.

That's terrible Harry. But, at least the "marker monkey" didn't get any of them.

This is a photo of a recent cover as you can see by the date touched by the MarkingMonkeys.

This has happened to me many times also

I am now always concious of how and where I place my stamps on the envelope. I also try to pack it as flat as possible.

When I send mail overseas I always tend to over frank the envelope/parcel so the receiver gets a variety of Aussie stamps though I must learn to move the stamps away from the edge, thanks for that David.
