does anybody know if the older chinese stamps ever had gum on the back of them because as I look through all of mine they look brand new but I see no gum on any of them HELP
Yes and no. Many of China's early stamps were issued without gum. Scott's calls out "with" or "without" gum as appropriate for each of the early issues.
